Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa

On this tour, we’ll explore Northern Crater and the Safari. We’ll commence the trip from the hotel to Londorossi Gate. After completing all the necessary formalities, we’ll head over to the Lemosho Trail, where we’ll begin the hike through the forest toward our first campsite.

TREKKING DAY 1

Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa

  • The estimated elevation will be from 7,742 ft to 9,498 ft

  • The hike duration will be 3–4 hours
  • Habitat: Rain Forest

On this tour, we’ll explore Northern Crater and the Safari. We’ll commence the trip from the hotel to Londorossi Gate. After completing all the necessary formalities, we’ll head over to the Lemosho Trail, where we’ll begin the hike through the forest toward our first campsite.

TREKKING DAY 2

Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

  • The estimated elevation will be from 9,498 ft to 11,500 ft
  • The total distance will be 8 km/5 miles
  • The hike duration will be 5–6 hours
  • Habitat: Heath

After hiking for some time, we’ll head out of the rainforest and explore the savannah and the volcanic draped lichens. We’ll climb up through the hills and pass several streams before we reach the Shira Ridge. Soon after, we’ll walk down to our camp—Shira 1 Camp. We’ll rest for the day and enjoy the Kibo Peak across the plateau.  

TREKKING DAY 3

Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

  • The total distance will be 7 km/4 miles
  • The hike duration will be 3–4 hours
  • Habitat: Heath

We’ll explore the Shira Plateau on this day. It’s an easy hike as the walk toward the Shira 2 Camp is more or less flat. You’ll spot plenty of wildflowers and trees on the way.

TREKKING DAY 4

Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower

  • The estimated elevation will be from 12,500 ft to 15,190 ft
  • The total distance will be 7 km/4 miles
  • The hike duration will be 3–4 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

Lava Tower to Moir Hut

  • The estimated elevation will be from 15,190 ft to 13,580 ft
  • The total distance will be 7 km/4 miles
  • The hike duration will be 2–3 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

As we continue our hike up the ridge, we’ll reach the Lava Towers. Lava Towers is over 300 ft tall and was formed from lava. We’ll then make our way to Moir Hut, pitched at the bottom of Lent Hills. Lent Hills is the perfect opportunity for you to improve your acclimatization. The Shira Plateau is one of the highest plateaus in the world.  

TREKKING DAY 5

Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp

  • The estimated elevation will be from 13,580 ft to 13,200 ft
  • The total distance will be 12 km/7 miles
  • The hike duration will be 5–7 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

We’ll continue our trek from the Moir Valley all the way to Buffalo Camp. The hiking trail would be a bit steep before we head back to the main trail. The path to Buffalo Camp will be rocky and challenging, but this hike will offer some of the best scenic views across Kilimanjaro and the Kenyan border that will make the difficult hike worth it.

TREKKING DAY 6

Buffalo Camp to Third Cave

  • The estimated elevation will be from 13,200 ft to 12,700 ft
  • The total distance will be 8 km/5 miles
  • The hike duration will be 5–7 hours
  • Habitat: Heath

As we ascend to the Buffalo Ridge, the trail will become sparse because not many have traveled this area. You’ll get to experience the wilderness of the mountains as we hike down the remote valleys on our way to Third Cave.

TREKKING DAY 7

Third Cave to School Hut

  • The estimated elevation will be from 12,700 ft to 15,600 ft
  • The total distance will be 5 km/3 miles
  • The hike duration will be 4–5 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

We’ll then climb over the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. We’ll continue our hike all the way to our next camp—School Hut. You’ll have sufficient time to rest and make preparations for the summit to Uhuru Peak and Crater Camp.

TREKKING DAY 8

School Hut to Uhuru Peak

  • The estimated elevation will be from 15,600 ft to 19,341 ft
  • The total distance will be 6 km/4 miles
  • The hike duration will be 6–8 hours

Uhuru Peak to Crater Camp

  • The estimated elevation will be from 19,341 ft to 18,865 ft
  • The total distance will be 1 km/.6 miles
  • The hike duration will be 0.5–1 hour

We’ll wake up near midnight and commence the summit. We’ll make a stop by sunrise and enjoy the view over Mawenzi at 18,900 ft. You can take your time to celebrate and take some photographs for memories.

TREKKING DAY 9

Crater Camp to Mweka Camp

  • The estimated elevation will be from 18,865 ft to 10,065 ft
  • The total distance will be 12 km/7 miles
  • The hike duration will be 4–6 hours

We’ll continue to go to Mweka Camp from Crater Camp. We’ll have our lunch break at Barafu. The trail is going to be a bit challenging due to rocky ranges. Using trekking poles is advisable if the hike is hard on your knees. Mweka Camp is located in the upper forest where we’ll enjoy a delicious meal and retire for the evening.

TREKKING DAY 10

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

  • The estimated elevation will be from 10,065 ft to 5,380 ft
  • The hike duration will be 3–4 hours
  • The total distance will be 10 km/6 miles
  • Habitat: Rain Forest

On the last day, we’ll commence our hike by climbing down the Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your well-earned Summit Certificates. The trail at the lower altitudes may be wet and muddy. You’ll then be escorted to your hotel Moshi where you can rest for the next day.

SAFARI DAY 1

ARUSHA – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

The next day, you’ll be escorted to Tarangire National Park from your hotel. It’s a 2-hour drive from Moshi. It is considered one of the most important parks with diverse species and landscapes. In addition to nature reserves like savannahs to marshes and giant baobab trees, you’ll spot animals like buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, leopards, and cheetahs. Tarangire National Park is also home to different birds and vultures that you can see up close from the vehicle’s open roof. You’ll stay at a lodge in the park for the night.

SAFARI DAY 2

KARATU – SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we’ll visit the Serengeti National Park by traveling. Serengeti National Park is one of Tanzania’s largest parks, home to a diverse number of species. You can also view the landscape, i.e., the thick bush, grassy plains, and lakes. Serengeti Park is mainly known for zebras and wildebeests yearly migration to find water and grass.

SAFARI DAY 3

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK – NGORONGORO CONSERVATION

We’ll also enjoy game viewing on our way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As we travel, we’ll see the Maasai Boma and their habitats. We’ll stay at the lodge on Ngorongoro crater for the evening.

SAFARI DAY 4

NGORONGORO CRATER – ARUSHA

On day four, we’ll head down to the crater over 600m down to enjoy a game. The collapsed volcano crater has become home to 25 thousand large mammals, including elephants, leopards, and rhinos. You will also be able to spot hyenas, warthog, and birds. We’ll end the tour with a well-deserved picnic lunch at Hippo Pool and drive back to Arusha town.

SAFARI DAY 5

DEPARTURE DAY

Depending on your plan, our staff member will drive you to the airport for your flight to home or Zanzibar.
