Overview
The Umbwe Route is short but steep. You can enjoy the spectacular view on your way up to Uhuru Peak. The route follows the scenic forest ridges to moorlands and then crosses the southern ice fields before reaching all the way to the summit through Machame Route. Umbwe Route is suitable for individuals who are used to hiking trips and are physically fit. Umbwe Route is steep and not frequently used. We’d recommend using trekking poles and gaiters; they will come in handy on slippery slopes in the lush rainforest.
