ARRIVAL DAY IN TANZANIA
You’ll be welcomed and escorted to your lodge in Moshi by our staff member after you arrive in Tanzania.
ACCLIMATIZATION DAY
This tour will get you to experience scenic hikes and safari trips to Arusha National Park. You’ll get to see the diverse wildlife and view spectacular landscapes on this trip. Arusha Park is one of Tanzania’s most convenient and fascinating destinations.
In addition to experiencing wildlife, flora, and fauna during your hike expeditions, you’ll also see three spectacular slopes, i.e., Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks and Shira Plateau.

Itinerary
TREKKING DAY 1
Begin Trek to Umbwe Caves Camp
Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp
- The estimated elevation will be from 5,249 ft to 9,514 ft
- The total distance will be 11 km/7 miles
- The duration of hiking will be between 5–7 hours
- Habitat: Heath
Soon after your lunch break, you’ll head to the trails to begin ascending at the trailhead. We’ll hike through the rainforest and villages. You’ll complete your registration at Umbwe Gate. From there, the trail road would take us through the dense and thick rainforest. The path will be deep and will continue to steepen as we hike through the ridges. Once surrounded by trees and two rivers, we’ve reached our campsite—Umbwe Camp.
TREKKING DAY 2
Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp
- The estimated elevation will be from 9,514 ft to 13,044 ft
- The total distance will be 6 km/4 miles
- The duration of hiking will be between 4–5 hours
- Habitat: Heath
The next day’s hike will be from our campsite at Umbwe Camp to the Great Barranco Valley. You’ll be able to get a good view of Uhuru Peak from the campsite if the sky is clear. As we climb up further, you’ll also be able to view Kilimanjaro. The hike route is flat from Barranco Camp until we reach the exotic Senecio Forest.
TREKKING DAY 3
Barranco to Karanga Camp
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

- The total distance will be 5 km/3 miles
- The duration of hiking will be between 4–5 hours
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
After the rocky hike up to the Barranco Wall, we’ll reach the top of Karanga Valley. You’ll get a view of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers as well. After that, we’ll climb up a 900 ft cliff to Karanga Camp. We’ll cross several scenic valleys and hills on our way to the campsite.
TREKKING DAY 4
Karanga to Barafu Camp
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

- The total distance will be 4 km/2 miles
- The duration of hiking will be between 4–5 hours
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
The next day, we’ll leave Karanga and head over to the rocky landscape on Mweka Trail. The landscape is spectacular. We’ll continue to hike until we reach Barafu Hut. We’ll have completed the Southern Circuit by then. We will have dinner and relax at Barafu Camp for the rest of the evening.
TREK DAY 5
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak
- The estimated elevation will be from 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft
- The total distance will be 5 km/3 miles
- The duration of hiking will be between 7–8 hours
- Habitat: Arctic
We’ll begin trekking on day 5 at midnight. This hike is going to be quite challenging. You’ll make a stop midway to enjoy the sunrise at 18,900 ft over Mawenzi Peak. You’ll have sufficient time to enjoy and take photographs of the summit before we continue.
TREK DAY 6
Complete Trek
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

- The total distance will be 10 km/6 miles
- The duration of hiking will be between 3–4 hours
- Habitat: Rainforest
We’ll climb down from the camp to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates on the last day. You’ll also enjoy a well-earned and delicious meal before heading back to Moshi hotel.
SAFARI DAY 1
TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK – KARATU
After breakfast, you’ll be escorted to Tarangire National Park by your guide to start the expedition. It’s a 2-hour drive from Moshi Hotel to the destination. This park is known for its scenic and diverse grassland, the Perennial River, and giant baobab trees. It is also home to hundreds of different species. You’ll get to see animals like dik-dik, bushbucks, hartebeests, waterbucks, warthogs, reedbucks, elephants, giraffes, and more. You’ll also see zebras, wildebeests, and other predatory animals such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Once the trip is over, you’ll head over to Karatu, where you’ll be staying for the night.
SAFARI DAY 2
KARATU – NGORONGORO CRATER – ARUSHA
Ngorongoro Crater is only 25 minutes away from Karatu. After an early breakfast, you’ll head over to Ngorongoro Crater, which is 600m deep and nearly 20 km wide. It is home to some of the most amazing species, especially the Big Five (leopard, lion, elephants, rhinos, and buffalos). You’ll also spot some hyenas and large birds. We’ll celebrate with a picnic lunch before leaving the crater and heading back to Arusha to retire for the evening.
SAFARI DAY 3
DEPART TANZANIA
This is the last day of the expedition. Depending on your plan, you’ll continue the tour, travel to Zanzibar, or fly home. Our driver will be there to escort you to the airport.
